May equals strawberries in Ky.

I love strawberries. Our local market just started selling them. Each year on may 1st they set their little stand up and hundreds come and buy strawberries all month long. I saw them yesterday and almost stopped. I may go back this morning. I make jam in May towards the end of the month....around 25 jars each year. I only have 2 jars left so I better get to it. Do any of you can anything?

I have never tried to can anything but I love the results! I bought some strawberries last week and ate about 30 before I got home. Just too good.

Oh yes we can piles of stuff. Danny makes fig preserves, blackberry jelly, grape jelly, we can tomatos, and pears. I'm hungry!

Hi Jen! YUMMY! Homemade strawberry jam - mix it with rhubarb too! I do can - mostly salsa and quartered tomatoes. Then I can pull out a jar all year long and make stews, spaghetti sauce, etc. Oh, and beans. Although, I am thinking about going to freezing with them due to the loss of vitamins with all the boiling to process. (More than you wanted to know??? :) )

Have a great day - glad to have you back. Hope your weekend away was SPECTACULAR!

I have made jam in years past, but it has been awhile. I was just telling the Butler yesterday that I wanted to make strawberry jam again. I have made the small jars and then given them as Christmas gifts to his fellow pastors and staff with a loaf of homemade bread. It's always a hit.

I hope you enjoy all the strawberries you want.

Yummy. I'm on my third box of strawberries this spring. I don't can. They never last long enough. But if I can get a really good deal on them I do freeze them and I love to make strawberry syrup for pancakes and ice cream with them. Our favorite way of eating them around here is to dip them in sour cream and then into brown sugar. My mouth waters at the thought.
Oh my, I love strawberries and I love strawberry jam or preserves. I have never tried to can anything though. I don't know how and I'm sure I don't have the right "equipment". You know what I did do though, a long long time ago? When I first got my bread machine, it had a cycle for making jam and I think I made one small jar of strawberry jam. This was over 10 years ago, but if I remember right, it was pretty good :)

Be sure to post and tell us how and show us your beautiful strawberry jam :)
