It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response,
the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone
and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, "Can't you see
I'm on the phone?"
Obviously not. No one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or
sweeping the floor,
or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me
Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this?
Can you tie this?
Can you open this?
Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a
clock to ask, "What time is it?"
I'm a satellite guide to answer, "What number is the Disney Channel?"
I'm a car to order, "Right around 5:30, please."
I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the
eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated
summa cum laude - but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter,
never to be seen again.
She's going … she's going … she's gone!
One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of
a friend from England. Janice had just gotten
back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel
she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking
around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to
compare and feel sorry for myself as I looked down at my out-of-style
it was the only thing I could find that was clean. My unwashed hair
was pulled up in a banana clip and I was afraid I could actually smell
peanut butter in it.
I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a
beautifully wrapped package, and said, "I brought you this."
It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe.
I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her
"To Charlotte, with admiration for the greatness of what you are
building when no one sees."
In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would
discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after
which I could pattern my work:
* No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no
record of their names.
* These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would
never see finished.
* They made great sacrifices and expected no credit.
* The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the
eyes of God saw everything.
A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the
cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny
bird on the inside of a beam.
He was puzzled and asked the man, "Why are you spending so much time
carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one
will ever see it."
And the workman replied, "Because God sees."
I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was
almost as if I heard God whispering to me, "I see you, Charlotte. I see
the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does.
No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake
you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are
building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will
At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a
disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my
own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride.
I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As
one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see
finished, to work on something that their name will never be on.
The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could
ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to
sacrifice to that degree.
When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend
he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, "My mom gets up at 4
in the morning and bakes homemade pies,
and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the
linens for the table." That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument
to myself. I just want him to want to come home.
And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add,
"You're gonna love it there."
As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if
we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world
will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has
been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.
This was sent to me from a dear friend...I wanted to share this with you all. I hope you all have a blessed weekend...I'll talk to you on Monday.
You know what? No one commented on me yesterday. I had over 100 views.....but no one commented. Sometimes I think I should quit doing this......some people get 2-4 comments some people get 10-18..some get 60-90...I got 0. How should this make me feel? You got it...Invisible.

I have to go to the grocery after I drop Madison off at school.
My sister Cassie is on her way to the United States.......and brother Chris flies home tonight.....it will be nice to see them.
I leave you with this......
- If you ever start feeling like you have the goofiest, craziest, most dysfunctional family in the world, all you have to do is go to a state fair. Because five minutes at the fair, you'll be going, 'you know, we're alright. We are dang near royalty.'
I couldn't resist.....

Today I'm going to clean around the house again. Laundry, vacuuming, preparing dinner.....which will be Shepard's Pie and homemade Bread.
Tomorrow is my big day out without children. I have to admit last week by the time I got to them I was sooooo ready to pick them up. I missed them both terribly. Don't get me wrong...it was nice day out. But I couldn't wait to see them.
Thank you all for the recipes for breakfast. I will be picking one and going to the grocery this week. I'll let you know what I choose next week.
Do any of you watch Young and the Restless? I know Chrissa does. I'm so addicted to this soap. I love it. I so hope you all have a fantastic day.

Good Monday Morning. What a great weekend. The girls had a blast with the High school Musical movie...we ordered pizza had alot of candy and I made Banana Splits. They stayed up to close to midnight. Saturday I took them to the mall and we walked around. Saturday night we went and got burgers and then bowling.....Sunday was church and they went home...whewwwwwww! Like I said what a weekend. But they had fun and that is all that mattered.
Today I need to clean bathrooms and start to organize my utility room. I may start making my pear preserves...I never made it. I got to busy.
And I'm going to make some fresh granola after I take Madison to school.
Do any of you have a really good Breakfast recipe so I can make and take to Sunday School next week? I'm searching for one.....
It's going to be another hot week so try to stay cool guys! I'm looking forward to the Young and the Restless this week. I just loved Phylis and Nick together and now well....they are not and it frustrates me to all end.

Good Morning.......where do I begin?
Today I have some errands to run after I take Madison to school. See her room is almost finished and we have some little girls coming over tonight to see the debut of Highschool Musical part 2...this is big stuff if you have a child between the ages of 8 and 14. SOOOOOO..Scott and I will have to take Miller for a walk and stay outside and away from the crew watching the MOVIE!!! On our big screen of course. We are ordering pizza...making nachos....I have alot of candy they don't know about...sorry Sue.....and went to the mall and got special flavored sugar packs just for each one of them....sorry again Sue. And we are making Banana Splits.......the girls are actually staying until Sunday afternoon. I know I' brave..I have Scott here to help. Miller is going to mom's so that will help.
So....I'm off to Walmart and Hobby Lobby this morning.....and then I have to rush back and finish her room and take care of a 21 month old....AGHHHHH!
I wouldn't have it any other way.......
I should be coming by to see everyone later tonight I so hope you all have a fantastic weekend.
Some of you asked for an update on Nate and my sister...
Nate....is still at the hospital but is now staying away from the hospital....but going back daily.
The chemo is working and the cells are only 1% in his marrow.....we are looking at a 98% recovery...please keep praying as they have a 9 week old baby too and 3 year old.
My sister....I have not personally heard from her. I have sent an email. I have been told she is fine and hopefully she will be coming home next week.
See you Monday!
Today ...I'm staying close to home to hear and make sure they are safe.

Today I had a vet appointment early after I dropped Madison off at school. I had Miller and Lucky what an experience. The bill was worse.....LOL!
Tonight I go shopping with my friend D for some pictures in my Family room. She has been helping me decorate some rooms. I value her opinion and respect her. She is such a great friend and person.
Tomorrow I go to lunch with my girlfriend E. Her birthday was last week. We never have one on one's..we are always in a group so it will be nice to have a quiet slow lunch.
Back to School night went well. The older your kids get the less parents show up for these things. I think its very important to stay involved in your kids schools.....and in your kids business. I hate it that parents don't stay focused on their kids.
Miller has had a cold. He is feeling much better though. He is so sweet. He is starting to learn how to blow his nose. And it's sooooo cute.
I hope you all have a blessed day...see you tomorrow.
To understand your parents' love you must raise children yourself.

I made a huge meal last night...pot roast and brown gravy, fresh green beans and whole potatoes, corn on the cob and fresh tomatoes and I even made homemade Amish bread..... It was so good. For dessert we had blackberry cobbler and vanilla ice cream. YUMMY!
This week will be kind of slow. Miller got a hair cut this morning he is so sweet. Then I finished painting Madison's dresser and Mirror. We have had lunch and are winding down. Tonight is Back to School Night and her teacher has asked me to be room mom. I had to think about it. I told her I didn't mind helping out. It is however Madison's last year in Elementary school. So I have to get papers ready for the parties they are having this school year for parents to sign up for things.....so I will have a busy afternoon on the computer.
Tomorrow me and Miller need to take Lucky our dog to the vet for his annual check up. And Wednesday...drum roll please......Miller will start going to mom's and mother in law's house every other Wednesday from 9-3 to give me a day a week to myself..no kids...I cannot wait. It will help me out for errands, appointments, lunch with friends....you get the picture.
I so hope you all have a great Monday.......

My definition of a friend is someone who listens to everything you say whether its worth hearing or not. A friend goes to coffee with you even if you come with a stroller and toddler......you have had no shower and your wearing flip flops and a scrunchie in your dirty hair. A friend comes over after work with no dinner to help you arrange your living room furniture...and stays until 9pm helping you out. A friend helps you move into a new home...brings you wonderful gifts even though you told them not too....a friend calls and offers you meals after a baby is born and comes and sits with you while you and baby sleep. A friend makes you a pie you are craving while pregnant.....and lets you eat the whole thing. A friend leans on you and lets you lean on them. A friend lets you call them at work and vent about something that really wont matter a year from now.....but it does at that moment. A friend helps you with child problems...gives you advice and opens your eyes to things you cannot see. A friend prays for you and with you. A friend celebrates with you and goes on trips with you and laughs with you.
You see I have a handful of the most brilliant, thoughtful, strong willed, compassionate loving, and wonderful women friends you could ever ask for.......Thank you God........I'm so blessed.

He just makes me smile everyday.
Wednesday, August 08, 2007
I have a nail appointment and my Family room furniture comes at noon.......I need to run down to the Farmers Market this morning for green beans and to look for some blackberries...yummy. I'm making a cobbler.
I loved this photo...just hang your flip flops out to dry....with this heat we are having they would dry fast I'm sure. 101 is what they have predicted this morning. 104 for the heat index.
That is hot...too hot.
But I hate complaining about the heat. We will just complain when winter gets here and say how cold we are. Right?
So I'm going to can pear preserves and pear honey this week after school starts back. Wish me luck I have never done this before.
They call today Hump Day since it's the middle of the week...the hump. I always found that word kinda of odd.
So we registered for school yesterday. I thought I would wait until half way through to get there thinking the hustle and bustle would be over...WRONG! We couldn't find a parking spot anwhere....so we parked down the road and I had to get Miller's stroller out and push it up a hill sweating......it was awful..then when we walked in...it was like the world was running everywhere..it was crazy. But we survived and we are very happy with our teachers.
Well...guess I will head out.....have a great Wednesday everyone!
Monday, August 06, 2007
Today is school registration....whoo hoo! So we go after lunch...we already know our teacher. I'm pretty excited. Gymnastics starts tonight. This will be great too. Getting back into a schedule that is.
I'm going to clean some today....my furniture comes Wednesday....I'm so happy about this. Finally my family room will have furniture. It will be complete.
The ice cream just looks so yummy. Has anyone made any homemade ice cream yet this year? My ice cream maker broke this year and I didn't buy another one yet. I guess I should be looking for one...it is soooooo hot here....it is supposed to be 100 today and the heat index is 102 today.......well supposed to be.
I have been visiting other sites and found such amazing blogs and people out there......wow! I enjoy browsing around.....such great women out there with amazing stories.
I hope you all have a great Tuesday....
Today, Madison is going to lunch and a movie with her granny. Miller and I are going to finish painting her dresser and mirror. We are painting her furniture black. Her bed has been done. It's very pretty.
I have been looking for a Pear Preserves recipe. I found one on Allrecipes.com but just thought I would ask you guys if you had one you had used before. I'm wanting to make some this fall. Do you all can anything? If so what?
I have officially opened and un packed my last box. Now...everything is not in its place...but un packed. It's very tiring. But I did weed through alot of stuff for another yard sale and the trash. This helps so much. We are going to have another yard sale at the end of the month.
Please keep praying for friends son Nate. He is still taking chemo treatments. Our classes at church have saved a generous amont of $$$ for their food, gas ect.
My menu planning will be simple this week as it's so hot and I don't want to start up the stove too much..
Monday........Tuna salad sandwiches with sliced tomatoes and chips
Tuesday.......Spaghetti and meatballs and Caesar Salad
Wednesday...Chicken Pot Pie and fruit
Thursday......BLT's and chips again...my family loves these
Friday............I will be at a MOPS retreat...so they are ordering pizza
Saturday........Chicken Divan and salad
For more meal planning go on over and see my friend Laura @ Organize Junkie........
I have been talking with Sandra about getting on a new schedule...you know new home, school starting, baby is getting bigger......so if you have any tips for me on schedules please pass them this way. I hope you all have a grand week and try to stay cool........

Friday, August 03, 2007
Anyway ...I won Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh...and we are going to Florida in October for fall break and I will read this great book by the sea.....and let you all know how it was when I get back...I'm so excited and thrilled.....and blessed..I cannot wait to get it.
I jumped and screamed when I found out......thank you so much Barb....your awesome!
I haven't done a Girl Talk in awhile. It's good to be back. I'm drinking my coffee with caramel vanilla creamer, the sun is shining and my children are playing at my feet. Life is good friends...come on in.
This week was so blurry. We unpacked some hung some pictures, finished on some things. Still have boxes to un pack. We are getting our consignment things together to take tomorrow morning. We may hit some yard sales...the kids love to do this.
My furniture is supposed to come for my family room next week. I'm more than ready for this.
Miller was supposed to start Mothers Day Out but I couldn't get him in in time. SO my mom and mother in law said they would help out and rotate weeks. Hopefully he can start the week after Madison starts school.
School starts next Thursday. We are almost ready for this. A few more things to get. Madison is excited I think.
Our friends J & S found out their son Nate has leukemia this past week and their entire lives went from normal to crazy in a matter of minutes. Please continue to pray for them. He started chemo yesterday morning.....we have started a donation fund for food and gas to where they have to travel for treatments and we have 3 Sunday School classes ready to feed and pamper them when they are home. I so love my church.
MOPS is getting ready to start up. Our retreat is next weekend. An overnight stay. I'm really excited about this year. We will have 2 meetings a month.
Cheerleading and Gymnastics start next week. I need to get her registered for gymnastics today. She finished tennis. Not sure how that will end up..she gets bored with it.
Sunday we are taking the kids to a local water park. We are going with some friends and are looking forward to this. One last hoorah before school starts back.
I so hope you all have a fantastic weekend.....I look forward to coming by and visiting Monday
Wednesday, August 01, 2007
I read posts everyday. Alot of them ask for prayer. I haven't ever asked you guys for prayer. But tonight I need it. We have some friends who go to church with us. They have 3 children. They are the most dedicated family I have ever met. I have taken some classes at church that she has taught just to listen to her. She is so amazing and knows so much about the bible.
I will get to my point. Their son Nate was diagnosed with leukemia this week. He is 5. He went in for his kindergarten check up and found his iron to be low. It is in the early stages. Yet he is 5. They are getting treatment tomorrow morning. I'm asking you women and men out there to please pray for his healing and quick recovery. Pray his parents stay strong for him and their family and for themselves. I cannot understand what they are going through. But I do know God has a plan. And in that plan he will take care of this family. Say a prayer for little Nate please. My heart aches for him and his sweet family.
The house is half way together. I'm still waiting on some furniture and cannot wait for it. School starts next Thursday and I'm telling you I'm ready for it too. I need that structure and schedule in my life.
We went to Current River this past weekend without kids. We went with 8 other couples and had an absolute blast. We rented some tubes with head rests and just relaxed and let the river take us down. I got hooked up in a couple of trees a few times and it was fine...but overall it was loads of fun. Very relaxing. Our friends and us plan a trip once a year for a couple of days to just enjoy each other. It is so worth it.
I hope you all are having a great week. I need to run and get some things done before we get out of here.......
