For more Favorite things go visit Suzanne over at Living to tell the story....

1. Family Reunions. We all go to them not knowing everyone even if you have been in the family for 20+ years. At first you dont wanna go....but then you do with your covered dish and the kids run and play with cousins and we sit and talk with our age group. Reunions are nice to sit around and look at all the generations that made our family.

2. Painting Pottery with the kids. We have a local Pottery Shop that children can go in and for a small fee they can paint pottery. Miller and Madison painted flip flops, baseballs and a football. Miller had never been and he had a blast. Madison loves going here yet we haven't been in awhile.

3. Rainy Days. It gives us a just lay around and sleep in, or watch movies.

4. My Cucumber Foot Scrub. I special order it from my nail tech and i love it. It makes my feet feel silky smooth.

5. My road trip with the kids this week. I love taking them to different places and experiencing different things with them. We had a great time.

We have a crazy weekend. Madison has her Back to School Swim Party we are hosting for her tonight at the club. She has another swim gig to attend tomorrow and a private swim party on Sunday we are going too. So swim swim swim we will. I'm off today to collect all her party things.

Summer Days

We had such a great day yesterday. We headed out to Marion, Ky to visit with the Amish community there. On the way we stopped by our families cemetery and changed out flowers. It was nice to be up there.

Once we got to Marion we went by the tourism center and got a map. Ate lunch at 88 Dip...a local favorite that has been serving the best burgers for over 50 years....and then got settled in the car for the ride to visit the Amish.

Once there we went in to Yoder's Bakery...where Miller got cookies and fudge and Madison checked out their sodas. Yes Amish drink sodas. I picked up some breads and then went over to the Creekside produce. I picked me up some squash as my garden didnt make much this year. I also picked up some onions...they were so cheap and I can cut them up and freeze them.
We walked from house to house watching them. It was laundry day....clothes everywhere. we picked flowers and laughed and chased Miller out of their was a nice, beautiful lazy summer day. Us and the world.

The Amish have such a simple life and I envy that. I told Madison I wish I could live it for only a week. They are such simple quiet people.

As we left we headed to the local Dairy Queen for sundaes and came home. A simple day....spent with the kids watching someones elses life while enjoying ours at the same time.
A great summer day we wont forget.

Today.............the rain has been falling and it doesnt look like a pool we are headed to a local pottery shop to paint. Maybe some dessert on the way home.
This week is filled with great adventures for the kids and I. Summer break is coming to an end and I want to fill them with great times.
Enjoy your day friends!

Day 4 at Swim Lessons

Day 4 we headed out. All was quiet in the car. I didn't know if Miller was happy or sad or scared. I didn't mention it though. We arrived 10 minutes early and went on out to the pool. Sprayed his head with sunscreen and took his shirt off of him. They explained we were in a new pool today..(we take lessons at a pool shop there are 4 pools there) and so the kids were so excited to have a different environment. Miller and I walked over and I got in he walked down the steps he slipped and fell down the steps....hence...flipping out. Ran out of the pool crying. Here we go again.
I talked him into getting to the steps. And talked to him quietly. He was embarrassed he said. I didn't think 3 year olds were embarrassed. They can be!
As the teacher arrived Miller was doing bubbles under the water and grabbed his rings and started going for them. Doing such a great job. An hour into the lessons....she called for a few of the kids and Miller was one of them. We went to the deep end. Jumping off the side and swimming to the side of the pool. He did great. Then he did the diving board twice! TWICE I complaints no crying just walked up to it and jumped.....she was there....and guided him once he came up and they swam to the edge of the pool. I was so proud of him. My mom stopped by and watched...she just could nto believe what this woman could do with these kids in 4 days.

We left a little early with a purple sucker today as water got into his eyes and they turned red. So I needed to get the eye drops in fast. But as far as the fourth day...he is doing great. We go back 5. I'm looking forward to it. We are meeting granny for lunch before to celebrate a great week he has had.

He has done so well and we look forward to next weeks lessons as well.

Day 3 at Swim Lessons

We were excited to get there...and he walked right into the pool. As the teacher got in though he started to cry...i don't wanna go under momma. i just stood there. He was clutched to me like a leach. The other kids started pushing off from the steps, doing their bubbles and diving for rings...while we watched.
As the teacher approached us he went right to her and did his bubbles with her...then pushed off to swim....for some crazy un godly reason...he snapped....just like a bean....he started going under water and doing his crazy....up and down up and down....up and down. I couldnt get him to stop. He was diving for rings...with my help and going under water holding his breath. It was like night and day. He even jumped in the pool with the 5 yr olds and swam..with her assistance to the stairs and stayed under water the entire time.
Throughout this whole thing..Miller has actually realy listened to me...every word. He normally wont. He is pretty hard headed. Madison joked in the beginning of all of this that we would probably girl was right I think. We communicate alot better. Which was totally worth it...whether he learns the basics of swimming or not for me.

Later last evening we took a meal to our sweet family friends that buried their son last week. As we left I told Miller we were heading to the pool, picking up pizza and a box of Oreo's and gonna meet dad.
We had our outdoor picnic....and he jumped into the pool un assisted and was swimming around like a little fish, going under diving for anything he could find down at the bottom. My mom came by to see him and could not believe the difference. Scott finally arrived and played with him for a couple of hours.....we ended our night with watching the sunset over the golf course.

A great day indeed.

So today is day 4 of swim lessons. He is still sleeping. I'm sure he will be asleep for awhile. My little fish is finding that this swimming is a whole new world....a world with possibilites a world that is unbeleivable for a 3 year old. I just hope that he has fun. And that he smiles alot...because for me...that is what it is all about.

Day 2 at swim lessons.

So day 2 of swim lessons. And we started out under the table by the pool. Yep. There I was sitting in a chair trying to convince him to get out from under the table. "Mommy I'm scared". Do I take him home, and let him not face his fear or do I tell him the teacher will just come get him? You guessed it....I told him the teacher would come get him. Yes I did. He crawled out from under the table took my hand and we headed to the pool. We made a deal to sit on the steps. So we sat. But I was okay with that...he was in the pool. He watched the other kids do their bubbles, dunk their head under and glide to the side of the pool. All the while I you want to do this with mommy? No...the steps are pine (fine). So then the teacher comes for Miller..and he went to problem. He did everything she asked...he listened and then came right back to the steps. I was so proud. then it was time to swim for rings....throwing the rings to the bottom...we are in 3 foot water remember this...and taking your child and positioning them in a dive position and dunking them down...yes dunking your own child...they go down grab the rings and push themselves up. I did not think Miller would do this. I really did not. I will be honest. So I worried.
She came for him and did it....he grabbed all the rings but 3 and the second time grabbed the three and pushed himself up. I was so excited. Great Job Miller!
He told the teacher then that he loved to do mommy and Miller practiced this for at least 20 minutes...back and forth. We also practiced floating on our backs. He wasn't that excited about that..but he did it.
And at the end of the day he got a sucker. A Blue one. His favorite.

So today we go 3. Not sure if we will go right into the pool, or if we will be under the table...but my boy loved the rings...and I cant wait to see daddy's face when he does it for him.

Day to Day

Yesterday was our first day of swim lessons for little Miller. He was so excited when we arrived. But after being forced to go under water and holding his breath....he didn't think it was fun and wanted to go home. We have 9 more days of it. I asked him this morning if he was ready to go back today and his answer Lets stay home and watch movies. I don't want him scared of the water and if we put a pool in next year he has to know how to swim. I just hope he starts to have fun with it. Madison is getting in today. Maybe that will make it easier for him. We will see.

Scott went back to work yesterday. His time at home was nice. We enjoyed his company. We hit the pool a couple of days and grilled on the deck and just had some old fashion relaxing fun. A good 4th of July. A BBQ at a friends house and at my momma's. A great holiday.

This weekend coming up is a day trip to an amusement park. Cannot wait. Madison is bringing a friend. We are looking forward to going. Miller has never been to one. And this was the age we took Madison for the first time...hoping its a great day for the kids. Miller's best friend is going too. That will help.

So some friends of mine have started up a Bunco group. I'm really excited about this. It starts tonight..the planning part of Bunco. Fun times with women and food and games....

The weather here has been great. Not too hot. Not cold. There has been a breeze in the air. That always helps. Yesterday we met some friends after swim lessons at the paradise snow. They were yummy!

I dont have alot left to say...dinner tonight is a Taco Bar since I'm going to Bunco. I hope you all are having a great week....

The 4th of July!

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.
Erma Bombeck

Happy 4th of July friends.

Wednesday, July 01, 2009
