Menu Plan for the week of February 1st

Dessert of the week....Honey Roasted Peanuts....these are easy and wonderful, and a nice treat to have on Valentines Day.

Monday....Skillet Lasagna with a side salad

Tuesday...Baked Potato Bar...we do this a lot on busy nights. Toppings I use...bacon bits, sour cream, butter, chives, cheese, salsa...I throw it all out and everyone loads them up. Sometimes I will put a salad with it. Easy clean up too.


Thursday...Chicken Tetrazzini 

Friday.....Eating out...Kitchen is Closed

Saturday.....Pepperjack Chicken with this salad on the side

Sunday....Brunch....Breakfast Tacos.... Dinner.....Steak Bites,  Potato Casserole, Sautéed veggies and rolls

Some tips on Surviving Winter

Good tips for helping your car survive Winter

So winter weather is gonna happen where I live. Here are some tips on being prepared at all times.

For your car....keep a big box in the trunk with a blanket, extra gloves, Hats, Snow boots, umbrella, roll of toilet paper, flashlight, water, peanut butter crackers for protein and some chocolate for a kick, radio with new just never know...make sure you have a phone charger in your car too. When you hear we are going to have bad weather...go gas up your cars.

Indoors....Keep all electronics CHARGED UP!! If you lose electricity at least you will have phones charged to call someone. (Electric company)
Flashlights with new batteries, matches for candles, a source of heat.....a week supply of food and water. This does not mean rush to the nearest grocery store. Just make sure you have a gallon of milk, toilet paper on hand, water...I always buy an extra case of water every week for an emergency stash. Keep your pantry stocked throughout the year for times like this.

Outside....close vents, make sure your water hoses are unhooked. Watch it Snow.

Meal Plan for the week of January 18th

Dessert of the week......Snow Cream and Homemade Hot Chocolate...for those Snow Days

Monday....Crock Pot Steak with Gravy  (Miller's favorite thing) over mashed potatoes and green beans, rolls

Tuesday....Mexican Pizza with chips and salsa on the side

Wednesday...Meatball Lasagna with Texas Toast


Friday....On Friday nights...the kids are normally not here...out with I do a dinner that Scott and I like (a grown up Italian Sausage Spinach and Havarti Crescent Braid

Saturday....eating out...Kitchen is Closed

Sunday....Brunch after church...Crock Pot Breakfast Casserole..( I will set my alarm for around 4am to turn on my crock pot....will make this the night before)...Dinner....Sausage and Penne Soup....yummy on cold nights! I'll add some kind of bread to dip in it.

Winter Blues

Several of you have asked if I was going to talk about the dreadful.."Winter Blues". January is just so cold. It's hard to get excited about leaving your house when its 20 degrees outside with a wind chill of 10. Or when its dark and cold outside. That's even worse. 
Don't get me wrong, my happy place involves sunshine, tank tops, flip flops, sunscreen, the ocean, warm evening walks, ponytails, ice cold drinks and warmth galore!!! Once Christmas and the first fall of snow has passed..... I'm ready for it to be over.
Of course, for so many of us...Old Man Winter over stays his welcome.
Winter is a season, though. I try to embrace it. I feel its a time to pull quilts out, make warm drinks to sip, snuggle into your home for a quiet winters nap. It's a resting time. On nights we are home, we watch a lot of movies (kinda catch up). I cook a lot of comfort foods, and bake fun stuff for the kids. I also have a a little "nook" in my family room. It's my chair with a basket of favorite things in it, books (devotions) magazines, my iPad, ear phones, a jar of cashews (mine only), a few hershey kisses...all tucked together for "me time". 
When I feel a little down, I try to get outside, feel the sunshine, take a walk or a run. Colors are important too, yellows, reds, oranges all make your heart smile. Winter won't last forever, so make the most of it. 

Snow Day Ideas

Puzzles....go buy 2-3 today. It's a great thing with kids.

Have a movie marathon, in your pajamas. Make fun foods like a taco bar or spaghetti for lunch. Homemade pizza shaped like a snowman is fun. 

Do a Board game Marathon

Snow Paint Indoors on the Cold Days...when my kids were little I filled the bathtub up with snow and let them go. It all drains out when it melts. They loved it.

Sugar Cookie Pizzas....Cookie dough from the store, toppings...strawberry jam or red frosting, coconut for cheese, red M&M's for pepperoni....a fun thing for kiddos

Picnics in the living room are great. We actually do this a lot.

Freeze cool whip dollops in cookie cutters for your hot chocolate...

Birdseed Ice Ornaments....this is my favorite thing to do with Miller in the winter. We do it every year.

Snow Volcano....Science fun at home

Water Balloon Marbles...these are all over Pintrest...they are so pretty

Sundae Bar with pudding cups....toppings, whip cream in a can, candies, cherries...these are fun.

Tip of the day......
How to get your kids out of bed on those cold mornings.....put their clothes in the dryer...they will jump right into them.

Meal Plan for the week of January 11th

Dessert of the week.....Holy Cow Cake....this cake has several names...its really good though

Monday....Sausage and Taters of our favorites, not that healthy but very comforting.

Tuesday....Garlic Shrimp Tortellini Toss with this salad...(you can use bacon instead of prosciutto)

Wednesday......Lasagna Stuffed Shells with Texas Toast

Thursday.......Taco Grilled Cheese Sandwiches....I make taco meat weekly, mostly because Miller loves when I have leftovers this is what we make!

Friday......eating out...

Saturday.....Broccoli Chicken Roll with Ambrosia Salad for of my favorite things ever!

Sunday......Brunch after church... Overnight Ham, Egg and Cheese Monkey Bread.......Buffalo Chicken family loves buffalo chicken wings and even though Madison is completely sick of soup right now, I'm still gonna make it.

A lot of you have asked about Madison last week. She got thru having her Wisdom Teeth taken out. It has been a struggle. She is sick of Soups and Mashed Potatoes. Hopefully she can get some Chick Fi Le soon!! Thank you all for the prayers, phone calls, texts and cards. She is healing finally.

At the beginning of each New Year everyone always talks about getting into shape, eating better, finding a "New You".  Yes, all this sounds wonderful. I even joined a bootcamp class this month to get it together. But in all reality....there is not really a "New You" are yourself. Just make it better. I have always said, take care of your body, you know yourself better than anyone.
If you like to exercise, then make a plan. It takes 21 days to form a habit. I remind myself of this daily.

Some ideas to jump start your January...

1. Meal plan! Get your list of meals started. This will save you stress and money if you have a plan!

2. Each week, make two for yourself and one for home. You can do this.

3. Read at least 15 minutes a day. Whether its a new book, a devotion, an article online. It helps with your brain.

4. January can be a long cold month...Cheer yourself up with a new oil or a new candle, buy a diffuser.

5. Find 10 things to sell, donate or throw clutter a room a week.

6. Write a hand written letter to someone, or a card. Snail mail is the best mail.

7. Drink hot chocolate, grab your favorite quilt and watch a movie...or better yet, take a nap.

8. Schedule a pot luck or a Soup Swap with your friends.

9. Connect with friends, schedule lunch or dinner, or even coffee. Friends keep us going. And they are free therapy!

10. Go get a pedicure or a massage. We deserve this!!

Monday....Madison has her wisdom teeth taken out Soup, Soup, and more Soup Sausage Potato Soup and lots of ice cream. I'm sure her daddy will hit Panera for her this week too.

Tuesday....leftover soup with salad bar set up

Wednesday.....Homemade Pizza Night...Build Your own pizza....

Thursday.....Sausage and Peppers with Pasta

Friday....Date Night...eating out

Saturday....Mississippi Pot Roast with mashed potatoes and squash casserole and Shubert rolls with Strawberry butter

Sunday......Brunch.....Breakfast Enchiladas after church.....Dinner....Baked Chicken Parmesan Sandwiches with french fries

Organizing is one of those words that can get you excited or leave you running away. After the holidays have come and gone and we start tearing down the Christmas decorations, I have this urge to walk from room to room with a bottle of pledge and a dust mop and clean everything.
There is just something about a clean house.

Every year we have so many things come into our home and I have to start decluttering. Closets, drawers, cabinets, rooms....I start with bedrooms, usually mine. Work my way to the kids rooms. I consign a lot. Find a local consignment store and call and get an appointment for drop off.
I make around $600 a year consigning everyones clothes, household items.

I also have gone thru my Christmas stuff. If I did not use it this year, it went to Goodwill or Consignment for next year.

Also, I love to grocery shop out of my cabinets and pantries. This is a great way to look for expired items as well. Once every 3 - 4 months I will menu plan from the pantry and do pretty good. It cuts down on your grocery bill quite a bit too. Check your freezer, I bet there is something in there to cook.

Buy a planner or a calendar. I love my planner. It helps me to stay accountable daily.

Get a Devotional Book. I started "Delight yourself in the Lord...even on Bad Hair Days" and I love it!!!

It's a new year!!! Embrace it!! Happy 2016!!!
