The holidays

Well Halloween is over. That means the countdown is on for the holidays....Thanksgiving and Christmas. Every year after Halloween it seems to go so fast and boom its Christmas Eve. This year I have planned on being organized. I want to watch my momma make her mom's Dressing on Thanksgiving and listen to my dad talk to Madison about the pilgrims and watch Miller run through the leaves and giggle chasing a football my brother has thrown for him. This year I want to enjoy watching Madison and her friends decorate Christmas cookies and listen to them giggle over things at school. I want to hear Miller squeal with delight as we walk through the mall and he sees Santa from a distance. I want to take the time to smile and go to dinner with my friends and truly enjoy it. I want to smell the gingerbread cookies baking at my Mother in laws house while me and my sister in law make peanut butter fudge. I want to hear my kids laugh this holiday season have camp outs in the family room by the fireplace, decorate cards for the mailman and make gifts in a jar for our neighbors.
This holiday season I want to enjoy it with my family and friends. I don't want to be rushed or tired or irritated. I choose not too. I do however choose to be relaxed and enjoy this wonderful life we have. So please sit back and start getting menus planned out now, Christmas cards started stamped and finished......crafts started......so that when it's time to rest and enjoy that moment you will have it. Life is so short.....enjoy it right now!

I feel the same way this year. I'm sick of having the holidays just fly right by. I want to be 'in the moment' this year.

I will have the house to myself this weekend and plan to get lists made, the house cleaned and myself prepared for what is to come.

Great words of wisdom, Jen! I find if I take it a little at a time, and plan on only accomplishing half of my list, I enjoy the holidays and my family, and what doesn't get done, doesn't really matter.

I think all of us have this goal. I plan to simplify even more this year than I did last year. All the things you want to be sure you make time for are what I envision the holiday season being like.

What a nice post. And thank you for reminding us to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures this holiday season.
Thank you for the advice, I so love to be organized and ready for the festive season. I'm getting the cards ready this weekend. That is a beautiful fall picture.
I just know you are going to be able to do all those things you listed - you seem to have a great game plan and good perspective! Go Jen!! I hope it is the best holiday season for your family yet.

What a wonderful post about slowing down and enjoying the holidays, Jen! After going to a few stores this weekend I decided to mostly shop online this year and have everything sent to me. I also picked up some really nice boxes of Christmas cards at the dollar store.

That picture is so beautiful and the advice is surely needed around my busy home. I've decided the kids are getting 4 gifts this year for Christmas, something to wear, something to read, something to enjoy and something to save! I hope I can keep it to just that. Blessings,
LeAnn
