Hurricanes


Hurricane Ike is slowly coming towards our Gulf Coast. Pray for everyone's safety. Some wont leave as others will. These storms are so powerful. Scott and I sat through a Category 3......Hurricane Opal in 1995 in Panama City, Fl. We saw a fence come up out of the back yard and fly across a field.....yet.....an ash tray on a nearby patio never moved. So.....as you can see these are powerful storms that we must not mess with...we should just get out of their way.

I too know that feeling. I lived in Houston in 1983 when Alicia hit Galveston dead on. Even though Houston is 65 miles inland we saw plenty of destruction. I remember opening the door to my apartment during the 'eye' and it was so calm, quiet and very eerie. I quickly closed the door and ran to the safety of my bedroom.

Now, Ike appears to be following Alicia. Even though I live in Kentucky now my brother and my daughter's godmother and lots of friends still live in Houston. I will pray for their safety and everyone else's.

Those pictures are incredibly amazing! Such beauty and fury at the same time. I've never been anywhere near a hurricane. Tornadoes are all we deal with here, and they are bad enough. I pray that thing dies down, and no lives are lost.

I've never lived in a place where tis type of weather is an issue. But, if I did, I would be out of there. Fast. I don't like to gamble.
My view on the leave or stay argument is different though, I don't own a home - base housing is base housing. It's replaceable. My family is my home and consequently irreplaceable, so we'd be all kinds of gone.

I'll be praying.

Those pictures are breathtaking. Our concern here is tornados. I've only witnessed them from far away. Humbling, when you think about nature being in control of our lives.

My oldest lives in Houston, I think they are about 40 miles from the gulf. They aren't being evacuated, yet, but might go to other family that has a generator!
That last picture is something else.

Hi. First time visitor here. Nice to meet you.

Amazing pictures. My daughter just returned from a medical missions trip to Texas. She was there during Hurricane Dolly. It is an experience she will never forget. Praise God for keeping her and the others safe.
