Shake Rattle and Roll

At 4:36 this morning I awoke to my bed shaking and bed posts swaying. I just laid there. The last Earthquake I experienced was about 7-8 years ago and it felt like a sonic boom. SO I laid there this morning to REALLY experience this Earthquake. Scott hit me saying Jen.....it's an earthquake...Madison came running into our room....and I just laid there.....what a crazy feeling. The earth under us moving and grumbling like a hungry stomach. It was so quiet...and felt as if the earth could swallow us up at any moment. Yet I lay there feeling it and listening. 5.4 and located about 2-3 hours from my home. And from a fault I'd never even heard of.
I grew up in this region taught about the New Madrid Fault.....back in the early 1800's it rocked our area....and I have always been told this Madrid would hit us again. So as I lay there this morning I felt the earth move....and it wasn't for like 5 seconds...it lasted a good 30- 60 seconds.....how amazing. Something God only has the power to do.

Today is grocery day. And I need to do laundry and straighten through the house. I have had such a crazy week. Gone almost everyday.
Yesterday was MOPS...it was alot of fun...we learned how to make Creative Activities for our pre schoolers....this should be alot of fun for the summer.
Tonight....we are going to dinner with old friends of ours....L and I have been friends since middle school so this will be alot of fun.
This weekend....we have a Sunday School Potluck Saturday night. Sunday is supposed to be nice out...Scott is playing golf and well...I may just lay out in the sun.
I hope you all have a great weekend.

I just heard about the earthquake on the news this morning- so glad you guys are ok. Did it knock anything down? I bet it did feel weird, I have never experienced anything like that.

I need to go get some groceries today too, but it's supposed to rain here soon. I don't like schlepping groceries in the rain, so I will have to hold off a bit.

Hope you guys have a great weekend!

I'm glad your family is okay! I heard about it on the news this morning. Isn't it amazing what God can do? I've never experienced anything like an earthquake, I'm sure that it was frightening.

I think it's so cool that you were able to just "be in the moment." When things like that happen (though we've had very few tremors where we live), I'm usually paralyzed or flailing my arms about and miss the whole experience! Wow, it's just amazing what the power of God can do, huh?

Have a great weekend!

Oh wow, Jen! That must have been something. Scary.

We've only felt very tiny little shakes before and only a couple of times. When the bridge fell a little ways from our house, we felt that.

Do you expect any kind of aftershocks? Did they know this was coming?
Have fun laying in the sun! It sounds wonderful to me!!

Crazy about the earthquake! We had a few when we were living in Alaska - scared the pants off me every time!

We slept through the earthquake! Since we live near an interstate and an army base, we are used to noise! I also have a clean air machine in our bedroom drowning out noise. My dog didn't even bark! There have been so many powerful thunderstorms lately he probably thought it was thunder! I did have to push a few things to the back of the shelf in bathroom and kitchen but otherwise - we never knew it! Everybody at work was talking about how they jumped out of bed when it started rumbling and shaking. We just missed it!!
I've been gone and am just now hearing about the earthquake! That is something I've not experienced before...read this morning that there could be more from it later but they weren't sure. Hope everything is ok at your place!

You sound like you just took that earthquake in stride, Jen. It would have scared me to death!

Funny, I never think of your part of the country as being earthquake territory, but I have heard of that fault.

Hi Jen! I had not heard of that fault either.

I remember the St Louis earthquake in November 1968. That one was off the New Madrid Fault. My youngest daughter was not born yet. My two older daughters were sitting in the back seat of the car. This quake happened during daytime. I felt the car move...without looking around I told the girls to sit still. When I turned to look at them their eyes were huge and their mouths wide open. As if to say...wow Mom, we didn't do that!

I heard about that quake, Jen

Glad to hear you are all safe and sound.
