Kitchen Ideas Please

Has anyone ever stripped and stained kitchen cabinets before? I need some in put if you have.
I have picked out counter tops and they are coming Friday to measure. Do I need to do something with my cabinets first? I'm posting pictures of my kitchen so you will have an idea....I need some advice. I like the color of my cabinets but they are needing some sprucing up. My counter tops will be the Corian tops...I haven't picked a color just yet. I have samples here. The color of my walls will stay the same....Terra cotta. Let me know what you think....thanks...you can also email me.

I think we have exactly the same stove and oven:) I've not stained cabinets, but I have stripped and painted varnished cabinets and put in glass insets in the doors. The best advice I can give is to set up sawhorses or something similar, take all the doors off and and line them up and go for it.

Love the terra cotta!

I have never messed with my cabinets.

Good luck with the remodeling. I can not wait to see when it is done.

Sorry. You're outta luck with me, too. I haven't done my cabinets but would love to, so I can't wait to see what you figure out. I love your hardwood floor.
We remodeled our kitchen and the painters painted my wood stained cabinets white, I love them! I had a girl helping me decorate and she wanted to do the wood floors but we didn't go with that; I have white cabinets, tile floors and black counter tops and appliances....wanted granite but I have way too much counter space to have it! My wall color is sort of a green color....I like the terra cotta!

I've never done anything with kitchen cabinets, but I would love to refinish ours! If you decided to do something to yours you'll have to tell us all about it.

I absolutely love your wall color!

I remember my mom doing this years ago, but it seemed like a huge job. Maybe you should see if you could hire someone to do it. Are you thinking lighter or dark? I like the idea of glass inserts too. I am not sure I want to clean the glass all the time since I have many sticky fingered kids living here. You have a nice kitchen, I can't wait to see it when it is done.

Thanks for the wood floor advice. I heard you can't use water so thanks for the heads up. I would of been charged a fortune here on post, especially since it's new housing. I will have to check the Maytag out. I have a Kenmore and am not thrilled with it.

I've never done that, but good luck with yours :)

I'm trying to catch up with everyone, I'm so out of the loop lately LOL

I for one am glad that you're not touching the walls.....I ADORE that color. ;) Might have to copy you one day!
I love the terra cotta color of your walls. I am actually considering doing a similar color in my kitchen.

I wish I knew something about cabinet stripping. What I can tell you is my friend and her husband did their own several years ago and it took them months. The sanding was quite labor intensive. You could try the DIY website (Do-It-Yourself) They may have suggestions for you.

You know, I'd wait until the counter top is in before I decided. Your cabinets are pretty and look nice with the hardwood floors and the terra cotta. I'm thinking you may not have to do anything to them at all which, based on the job it would be, would be a blessing!
My daughter Sarah didn't strip hers but she did paint them and do some treatment to them, and eventually she went over that and painted them a plain glossy black. They look wonderful! Really updated it. You can probably see a photo at her blog (In the Midst of It). I'd love to paint ours antique white but I think hubby would have a stroke over it. Men seem to love the look of plain wood.

Don't let Home Depot talk you into buying this awful chemical to strip you cabinets..it is very toxic and dangerous to breathi it in and it can hurt your children's lungs...my hubby and I started to do this and the smell made the whole family sick. If you just want to tweak the look a little you can by this stuff that you literally just wipe on to give them a beautiful aged and slightly distressed look..ask for it at Lowe's or Home Depot and they will know what to give you. Good Luck!
I can't wait to see what you do!!! (I like the black idea that Bev mentioned)

blessings,
